If you are feeling ambitious, check out this website here on how you can actually make your own apple butter. She has a fantastic tutorial that is easy to follow and her results are great!
What is apple butter used for?
Apple butter is a super concentrated form of applesauce. It is cooked slow and long so that the sugar in the apples caramelize… they turn the sauce a rich, dark brown. It’s great on toast and muffins, or in marinades or dips. The smell is heavenly. Substitute apple butter in some of the holiday dishes you make that call for other fruit fillings.
Do you put BBQ sauce on chicken before or after baking?
Honestly, it all depends on the sauce. If the sauce is super high in sugar, you run the risk of scorching it with high heat temperatures of the oven. With this specific recipe, the BBQ sauce is mixed evenly with the apple butter so we don’t have any issues. We also bake it on the middle rack of the oven so everything cooks evenly.
