There is nothing like the taste of french onion soup sometimes. But boy is it labor-intensive and not all that easy to make. We put a quick and easy spin on this delicious staple to make it family-friendly and a little healthier. Our baked chicken with french onion soup mix is a full meal rolled up in one dish so the clean-up is super quick. Its a family pleaser from the husband down to the tiny humans. 🙂
How do you know when it is done cooking?
You can poke the meat to see if juices are red or clear. This method applies to chicken specifically. When you poke a chicken breast and the juices that escape are clear, then it is most likely done. If the juices are red or have a pinkish color, your chicken needs some more time in the oven. Ideally, if you have a meat thermometer, cook until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F. (This one has amazing reviews and is a user-favorite!)

How to make Baked Chicken with French Onion Soup Mix:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Put your fresh, thawed chicken breast in a bowl.
Pour in your french onion soup packet and olive oil. Mix well.

Lay the chicken breast in the middle of a 9×13 casserole dish.
Next, lightly toss your green beans with the remaining olive oil mixture.
Then place green beans around the chicken breast.
Place in oven and bake for 30 minutes.
Enjoy!

At the end of the day, sometimes you’re just tired and you need to throw something together so you can get out the door ASAP. Well, this is your answer. However, just because you need something quick doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice health and taste. This dish is packed with both and is easy in a pinch. This baked chicken is on our monthly food rotation and that is definitely not a bad thing!
*For this recipe, we used frozen green beans from Trader Joe’s. Fresh green beans would enhance this dish even more but the frozen ones work great and soak up the flavors of the yummy french onion soup mix.

So, I found your blog, because I was in the mood for French Onion soup (yes, even in July!), and I had some chicken in the frig. So, I googled a French onion chicken, and that brought me to your site. Wow! This was amazing! So tender and flavorful. We loved it. I have been browsing your recipes, and I am in love! I am going to be a regular reader/recipe tester.
I’m so happy to hear this! Thank you so much for the feedback!
So essy, I want to try
Easy AND delicious!
Going to try this but using the Roasted Chicken Au Jus concept from their Onion Mushroom Soup Mix. Same thing but with bone-in legs and thighs @ 450F. That is SUPER GOOD but they were all out of Mushroom mix at the store. Will try similar but with Knorr’s French Onion Soup. It showed it poured over chicken on the cover. lol I grew up with eating onion soup mix mixed in with ground beef for Hamburgers. Super good but makes you tank up on water. Great joke to play while camping if you hide the water and act like a bear stole the iced chest.
Easy and delicious! Thanks for sharing
In the chicken and French onion soup mix and green beans, do the beans become overcooked??
No at all! They still have a slight crunch to them!
Nasty, can’t taste the seasoning, very oily, not for me
So Sorry you did not enjoy! You could always try to cut back the oil or add more seasoning! Have a great day!
