Is chicken sausage healthy?

If you are going to use ‘healthy’ and ‘sausage’ in the same sentence, the way to go is definitely with chicken! Chicken sausage, and the one we used in-particular, is so much lower in fat and sodium than a traditional pork sausage. In this sweet apple chicken sausage, there is a whopping 12 grams of protein! There is no trans fat and only 9 grams of carbohydrates. This sausage is a great option when going for something healthy without sacrificing taste!

Where can I buy apple chicken sausage?

You can find chicken sausage, and this Sweet Apple Chicken Sausage, at most grocery stores. Walmart is a great source for chicken sausage as well as Winn-Dixie, Publix, Krogers and HEB. It will be located in the same spot as all other sausage. Typically, there are only 2-5 choices, but they are usually all great options!

  • Apple Chicken Sausage
  • Yellow Bell Pepper
  • Spinach
  • Zucchini
  • Garlic
  • Cherry Tomatoes
  • Italian Seasoning

How to make our Healthy Chicken Sausage Skillet:

First, place a large 12″ skillet on a burner and turn to medium-high heat. Place the dice chicken sausage links in the skillet. Cook for 5-6 minutes, flipping a few times. While the sausage is cooking, dice the zucchini, bell pepper, and sweet onion.

After 5-6 minutes, put all the veggies in the skillet with the sausage. Cook for another 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, and watching as the onions become translucent.

After the veggies are tender, add the spinach, tomatoes, and minced garlic. Stir to completely combine all the ingredients.

Last, sprinkle the ingredients with the Italian seasoning and stir. Cook for another 3 minutes, until spinach is wilted. Serve hot and enjoy!

This Healthy Chicken Sausage Skillet is filled with flavorful sweet apple chicken sausage, zucchini, bell peppers, and tender tomatoes in a delightful Italian seasoning blend.

Ingredients

  • 4 cooked chicken sausages, sliced
  • 2 Zucchinis, diced
  • 1/2 sweet onion, sliced
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, cubed
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 Cups Spinach

Instructions

    1. Heat a large skillet on medium-high heat. Add sliced apple-smoked chicken sausage.
    2. Cook sausage for 5 minutes, flipping frequently.
    3. Reduce heat to medium. Add diced zucchini, onion and bell pepper. Cook and stir until the onion is translucent and peppers and zucchini are tender, about 10 minutes.
    4. Add the spinach, cherry tomatoes, minced garlic and Italian seasoning. Stir and cook for an additional 2 minute, until spinach is wilted.
    5. Serve and enjoy!
