A ‘Shirley Temple’ is one of my kids go-to beverage choices when I tell them they can have something special. Needless to say, we ALWAYS have grenadine on hand. This cocktail is fantastic for the summer-weather that I’m just willing to come. By using the individual small bottles, it’s an easy portion control. It’s also easy to throw all these ingredients in a cooler right next to our awesome Chicken Salad, and you’ve got a perfect combo to enjoy outside today!

Whats the difference between Champagne and Prosecco?

One of the more important facts to know is that Champagne comes from the Champagne region in France and Prosecco Northern Italy. That specific name is derived from their country of origin. Champagne can be a blend or single varietal wine made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Prosecco is made from the Glera grape variety. The second most important difference is how they are made sparkling. Champagne is made with the ‘traditional method’ typically where as Prosecco is made most often with the ‘tank method’. What is grenadine syrup made of?

Authentic grenadine syrup is made from pomegranate juice sweetened with sugar and flavored with a few drops of lemon juice and orange-flower water (as opposed to corn syrup and red dye). More info and a homemade recipe found here!

Ingredients for our Alcoholic Shirley Temple

How to make our Alcoholic Shirley Temple:

First, pour 1-2 TBS of grenadine into your glass. We start with the philosophy that less is more… grenadine is sweet so you don’t want to make the mistake of overdoing it.

Next, add 1/4th cup of pineapple juice to the wine glass. You can always add more, but we find this to be the perfect amount to allow for maximum flavor!

Last, pour the bottle of Prosecco slowly into the glass. There shouldn’t be a need to stir… adding the Prosecco will do it for you!

Enjoy! Also, for the BEST results, chill all the ingredients before using!
