Guilt free, 4 ingredients, and super easy clean up! That right there makes a pretty great recipe! Our Salted Honey Sweet Potato Fries are made from fresh cut sweet potatoes, air fried for less than 10 minutes, and drizzled with golden honey. Top it off with a sprinkle of coarse salt to make it that perfect combination of sweet and salty 🙂
I sometimes find myself in a rut when it comes to cooking side dishes for my family during a busy week. Typically, I’d make the same ol’ rice, steamed veggie, or baked potato. I wanted to share with you that there is such a great opportunity to broaden your scope on sides with just a smidge of imagination. Honey isn’t something I automatically think to throw on fries, but on these, it is fantastic! Topping it off with salt just made it all the more yummy too. These are 4 ingredients most of us have on hand at one point or another… spice it up and try something different. You won’t regret it.
Are sweet potatoes healthy?
Sweet potatoes are a versatile root vegetable that can be prepared in many ways. They are rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. They’re also high in antioxidants that protect your body from free radical damage and chronic disease. Sweet potatoes are rich in beta-carotene and anthocyanins, which are antioxidants that may help prevent vision loss and improve eye health.
How does an air fryer work?
An air fryer is an appliance that cooks food by circulating hot air around whatever is in it, using the convection mechanism. It is a smaller version of the convection oven. A mechanical fan circulates the hot air around the food at a really high speed, cooking the food and producing a crispy layer, which makes it seem fried. It is a much healthier option than frying something in oil. Most ovens have a convection options if countertop space is an issue!
Ingredients for our Salted Honey Sweet Potato Fries
- 2 large sweet potatoes, cut into slices
- 1.5 TBS olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 TBS honey
How to make our Salted Honey Sweet Potato Fries:
Preheat the air fryer to 400 F.
While the air fryer is heating, wash the sweet potatoes and cut into stripes, no longer than 3 inches. Leave the skin on – they add to the taste!
In a bowl, toss the raw sweet potato spears in the olive oil. Place in a single layer in the air fryer.
Cook for 8 minutes, shaking the basket half way through. This could take a few batches. You do not want the fries touching or overlapping because they will result in a soggy fry versus a nice crispy one! Once cooked, drizzle the honey over top and toss lightly. Add salt and serve!
**If you don’t have an air fryer, use in a convection oven the same way!
These fries are a fantastic side for so many dishes! We love to pair them with our Sweet Heat Meatballs, next to our Crockpot BBQ, or along side our Creamy Crunchy Chicken Casserole. They make a great and healthy after school snack that my kids go nuts for. We love how fresh and delicious these are while still being simple!
