I try to serve some sort of fruit for every meal. Something about a couple of strawberries or grapes when the kids are eating chicken nuggets for the 3rd time this week just makes me feel a little better about their plate. 😂 I find that when I have fruit already washed and prepped in the fridge, the kids eat it so much faster than when they have to fix it for themselves. I started adding this delicious honey lime drizzle to mix things up a bit- it was a huge hit in my house and now my kids are happy calling this dessert!

How much fruit salad should I plan per person?

This question definitely depends on several different variables, but the general rule of thumb we use is 1/2-3/4 cup of fruit per person. This is based off of a mixture of children and adults and assuming that there are several other options on the buffet table. If you are concerned about making too little or too much, you can always serve the dressing on the side so that the fruit will keep longer if you have leftovers.

Can I make Honey Lime Fruit Salad ahead of time?

If you choose to prep this salad ahead of time, we recommend storing each of the fruits in separate containers and DO NOT slice the bananas until immediately before serving. Bananas tend to turn brown and mushy and you don’t want that! Also, you can go ahead and make the dressing, but only pour it on immediately before serving. This will keep in the refrigerator for a couple of days, but the fruit will soften and wilt and may not look as appetizing as it does on day 1. 😉

Can fruit salad be frozen?

We don’t recommend freezing this salad; however, it is perfectly safe to do so. You may lose some of the delicious texture and taste after it has been frozen, but it is not unsafe to do so!

Ingredients for Honey Lime Fruit Salad

Ingredients for our Honey Lime Fruit Salad

  • Apples (we love Honeycrisp or Fuji!)
  • Bananas
  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Honey
  • Lime
  • Fresh Mint Leaves

How to make our Honey Lime Fruit Salad:

Wash fruit and dry. Dice apples, strawberries and slice grapes. We like to slice the grapes so that the honey and lime flavors can absorb into them!

Place all fruit except for the bananas in a large bowl. DO NOT slice bananas until immediately before serving! When I bring this to a party, I actually bring the bananas with me a slice them and add to the salad right before we eat. This keeps them from getting to brown and mushy! Finely chop mint leaves and set aside. In a separate, small bowl, combine honey, lime and chopped mint.
