I discovered Naan in the deli department at my grocery store a few years back. I decided to give it a try because some friends of mine had talked about it before. Four years later, my freezer is NEVER without it. Naan is wonderful as a pizza crust, cut in pieces and served with a dip, or with a delicious layer of Nutella and strawberries for breakfast. Bonus: it freezes and defrosts like a dream! As much as I would love to be able to make my Homemade Pizza Dough all the time and use it, my lifestyle doesn’t always allow for it. This Naan flatbread came in hand when I was out of taco shells but the kids wanted Mexican. This recipe was a glorious happenstance of ‘use what you got’! 🙂
What is Naan bread?
Naan originated in India. Its name comes from the Persian word, non, for bread. Unlike pita, naan has greek yogurt, milk, and sometimes eggs or butter in it, resulting in a softer texture. It doesn’t have an overwhelming flavor so it is a great compliment to many dishes. It is versatile from eating with just some olive oil or making into a pizza like this specific recipe!
What is a good precooked taco meat?
Tyson makes a great fully cooked seasoned ground beef crumbles —–> get it HERE! They are frozen so you just pop the bag out of the freezer whenever in need and it eliminates one extra step when Mexican food is on the menu! If you are a vegetarian, these Beyond Beef Feisty Crumbles are the way to go ——> get it HERE! Delicious and they taste great.

Ingredients for our Homemade Taco Pizza:
- Naan Flatbread
- Taco Meat
- Shredded Cheese
- Shredded lettuce
- Diced Black Olives
- Salsa
- Refried Beans
- Limes
How to make our Homemade Taco Pizza:
The first step is to preheat the oven to 425 F.
Next, on a flat surface, lay the Naan bread out. Open a can of refried beans and use about 1/4th of it. Evenly spread the beans on the flatbread.

Next, sprinkle about 1 cup of cooked taco meat over the beans. When I cook taco meat, I always make extra because there are so many ways to use it throughout the week. If you don’t have any made, all you need is about a half pound of ground meat (beef, chicken, pork, or turkey) and 2 tablespoons of Taco Seasoning.

Next, sprinkle 1/2 cup of shredded cheese (or more!) over the refried beans.

Once beans, meat and cheese are on the flatbread, place it on a baking sheet and bake for 7 minutes. Remove from the oven and top with shredded lettuce, diced black olives, and salsa. Garnish with diced cilantro and lime juice and enjoy!
Variations and additions:
- Black Beans
- Guacamole
- Sweet Corn
- Green Chiles
- Sour Cream
- Diced Tomatoes
- Avocado Slices
- Queso
Add a layer of salsa after the refried beans if you really love salsa! Cut on the black olives if those aren’t your thing. Substitute in some queso if you aren’t a huge salsa fan. The option are endless!

I know I’ve said it a million times – but Mexican food is always the answer in our house! It’s not really necessary to keep changing it up because Taco Tuesday is always a favorite. However, I like to keep my recipes varied… same great flavors, just in different forms. It keeps things fresh and my family appreciative! Ha. But when I can combine Mexican food in a pizza form, my kids kinda think I’m a hero 🙂
