Ingredients for Best Italian Seasoning

Ingredients for Best Italian Seasoning

  • 1 1/2 TBS oregano
  • 1 tsp marjoram
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 1/2 tsp rosemary
  • 1 1/2 tsp sage
  • 1 1/2 tsp basil
Bowl of herbs

This particular seasoning is a crucial ingredient in our homemade pizza dough. We first tried a generic store bought seasoning but quickly realized how much we wanted to tweak the taste here and there… maybe a little more oregano and not so much rosemary, etc. We created the perfect solution and now we use it in a variety of the recipes that you see in our posts.

What is a good substitute for Marjoram?

Marjoram is an ingredient that I never really cooked with early on, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this specific ingredient wasn’t within reach on your spice rack right now. Pro-tip: If you are out of this specific spice or just don’t have it, just add extra oregano in its place and you’ll be good to go. Marjoram is from the same herb family as oregano. However, oregano tends to be a little stronger, so we recommend just adding a teaspoon or two less than what the recipe calls for of marjoram. Problem solved 🙂

Labeled herbs for Best Italian Seasoning

We use this Italian seasoning in a ton of dishes. It’s great in soups, pasta sauces, and perfect on all types of meat and we especially throw it on our chicken when making our chicken bacon zoodles. It is flavorful without being too robust and creates the perfect zest in any dish you add it to. Often times, we double the recipe to make a large batch (we do this for most of our pantry recipes!). We’ve found that you can never have too much on hand.
