I was craving something but I couldn’t figure out what. We love regular pizza but my family does that every Friday night. I needed to add some flair to my lineup this week and I happened to hear a friend talking about a greek pita they had earlier that day. That’s when it hit me! I needed some greek food in my life. I keep most of these ingredients in my house regularly, so whipping up a homemade tzatziki wasn’t that tough! My husband isn’t an olive guy, so I kept those off of his. This greek pizza is easy to customize for your specific taste which makes everyone in my family happy! The kids love that they can help put this together all by themselves too!

What does Greek seasoning contain?

Greek seasoning is a blend of various dried herbs and spices typically used in Mediterranean food. The blend includes Mediterranean oregano, garlic, onion, dill, parsley, marjoram and thyme. Other spices such as basil, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and pepper may be included depending on the specific blend you use. We love the homemade version found HERE on ThePinningMama.com.

What is Naan bread?

A typical naan recipe involves mixing an enriched white or whole wheat flour with active dry yeast, salt, and water. The dough is kneaded for a few minutes, then set aside to rise for a few hours. Pita is made with a lean dough (flour, water, yeast, salt, olive oil) while naan is made with an enriched dough that includes eggs and yogurt. Naan is cooked on a griddle or a skillet, at medium heat. It is great for dipping and eating with brushed butter and garlic over top. It makes for a great pizza dough option when you don’t have the time to make your own.

I can honestly say that this is my top 5 of my most favorite recipes I have made recently. The naan bread just makes it so simple and taking an Italian dish and turning it greek is fun! A lot of times, our grocery store has BOGO on the Naan so I buy it then and freeze the second pack for the next time. They freeze great and thaw super fast. In the even that Tzatziki isn’t your thing, just use a creamy greek salad dressing… results are still great!
