An added bonus to this easy recipe- the Marzetti Simply Dressed dressing is a healthier option that contains no preservatives, non GMO oil and natural ingredients! A total win!

Why is cole slaw called cole slaw?

This name came from the Dutch Term “koolsla” which means cabbage salad. The side dish that we all know and love has not been around too terribly long because mayonnaise wasn’t invented until the 18th century!

Is cole slaw dairy free?

Yes!  This dish is probably one of the most confusing when looking for dairy free foods! You should always double check ingredients if you have an allergies. Typically, mayonnaise is the base for cole slaw recipes, which is a naturally dairy free food since it is made from eggs and oil!

Can I save my leftover slaw?

Here are our thoughts on that… anytime a dish is made with mayo, if it has been left out for more that 3 hours, unfortunately you need to throw it out. The risk of bacteria growing is just too high and it is not worth it!  If it was chilled the entire time, it will be fine to put in the refrigerator and safe to eat for 3-5 days. The slaw dressing tends to break down the cabbage after a while, so we try to eat any leftovers within the first 48 hours (which isn’t hard to do around our house!)
