What is simple syrup made of?

Traditional simple syrup is made from one part water to one part sugar. White granulated sugar is the standard sweetener, but once you’ve mastered that basic base, you can experiment with other sugars, just being sure to keep the ratio the same.

What is a substitute for simple syrup?

There are a few alternatives to using simple syrup. The most popular when you go to a bar are gum syrup and agave nectar. Molasses, honey or honey syrup are other options, though they should be used selectively in cocktails. All of these options have distinctly different flavors and can alter the taste you are going for.
