Our Ultimate Chocolate Chip Pizookie on a table with cookies and chocolate chips

About seven years ago, my family was stationed in Phoenix, Arizona. We had just moved from a tiny town in Oklahoma and decided we needed to eat out at ALL the places and do ALL the things we felt we’d missed out on the last five years. One of the places we visited frequently was BJ’s Brewhouse. They were the first place we’d ever heard of a Pizookie and they were AHHHHHH-mazing. When we had to move a year after being there, we decided we HAD to come up with a recipe for our own. This recipe does not disappoint!

Who invented the pizookie?

After doing some digging, we realized it was in fact invented by BJ’s Brewhouse! I had no idea but it makes total sense but they are soooo good. They have a variety of flavors you can order, as well as a “flight” of small pizookies if you just couldn’t decide! AND… if you are lucky to live near one, they have a “Free Pizookie Day” once a year!

Ingredients for our Ultimate Chocolate Chip Pizookie

Ingredients for our Ultimate Chocolate Chip Pizookie:

  • Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Cookie Dough
  • Chocolate Syrup
  • Cast-Iron Skillet

How to make our Ultimate Chocolate Chip Pizookie:

Preheat the oven to 350 F.

Grease your cast-iron skillet with baking spray.

Place about 1 1/2 Cups of cookie dough into the center of the skillet. Use the back of a spoon and gently push the cookie dough out. Manipulate it so that it is equally distributed in the pan and about 1/2 inch thick.

Cover tightly with foil and place in the oven. Bake for 25 minutes, then uncover the skillet. Place back in the oven and cook for 5-7 more minutes. You will know it is finished when the dough starts to slightly pull away from the edges and the top is a nice toasty brown color.

We let it cool/set for about 5-8 minutes. Place scoops of ice cream on top, drizzle with chocolate syrup, and enjoy! If you don’t want to share from the same dish, cut the pizookie into ‘pizza-like’ slice, place on an individual plate and top the ice cream and chocolate syrup. Enjoy!

Final product of our cooked Ultimate Chocolate Chip Pizookie

This is hands down one of our family’s most favorite desserts! It is an every-man-for-themselves type of frenzy! When this baby is out of the oven, we all come with a spoon in hand and just dive-in. For our family of 4, it never lasts more than 5 minutes. Sorry, we’re not sorry 🙂 Personalize with whatever dough you want, but know that your specific dough can change the bake time so keep a close eye on it. Our Dark Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough never fails so we highly recommend it! Happy eating friends!
