Finally – your search is over! Our Perfect Mild Pizza Sauce has the absolute best consistency and is so palate-pleasing with the perfect blend of basil, garlic, and tomatoes. It’s a compliment to ANY Italian dish without being overwhelming. It is light and fragrant and only 6 ingredients! Look no further- this is the best pizza sauce ever!
Our family has been doing Friday Night Pizza Night for as long as I can remember. We alternate with some Stromboli, but it’s always one of the two. We aren’t huge red sauce fans because all the ones we’ve tried are too overbearing in flavor or way too thick. This recipe has been an evolution over time… and we finally nailed it! It is literally 10 years in the making and we finally got it just right. Now we can never NOT have it on Friday nights 🙂
Does the type of tomatoes matter?
Absolutely – 100%!! I have been trying to perfect this recipe for years and nothing compares to the San Marzano tomatoes! They have the perfect blend of acidity and sweetness to make this sauce just the way we love it. They have a super recognizable label so be on the lookout for the bright yellow next time you are at the store.
Do I have to use fresh basil?
Once again – YES!!!! This also makes all the difference. There is no comparison between fresh and fragrant basil and the dried, bottled-type. While they both serve different purposes, for this specific recipe, you 100% need fresh basil leaves. I made this once with the dried, store bought type and it went right in the trash 🙁 A lot of super markets have the live plant (which is what we use) or the small individual packs of leaves. You will get more bang for your buck with the plant because you can keep it alive so it just keeps reproducing for you!
Can I freeze pizza sauce?
Definitely! This recipe makes a good sized batch so I always end up freezing about half. Place the remaining sauce in an air-tight container. It can stay frozen for up to 6 months! I love being able to grab the dough and sauce out of the freezer in the morning and it’s ready to be put to use that evening. The taste is still great and unaltered!
Ingredients for our Perfect Mild Pizza Sauce:
- San Marzano Canned Tomatoes
- Olive Oil
- Fresh Basil
- Oregano
- Garlic
- Salt
How to make our Perfect Mild Pizza Sauce:
You will need to use a blender or food processor so grab whichever one you have on hand. We used our Vitamix! Measure out the 1 cup of fresh basil, 1 1/2 tsp of minced garlic and the 1 tsp of oregano.
Open tomatoes and place in the blender. Measure out the rest of the ingredients and add to tomatoes. Once the blender is going on low, slowly drizzle the olive oil. Blend for 20 seconds. Thats it!
Enjoy!
It’s super easy, right? Any time we are having pizza or Stromboli, this is our go-to. It’s great layered on our 5 Ingredient Italian Herb Pizza Dough and great for dipping with bread sticks or Stromboli slices. We are all about ease and convenience, which this recipe offers. When you can make pizza sauce homemade, there is no reason to suffer through store-bought!
