Maple Bacon Brussel Sprouts

Sweet, spicy, and just what your holiday season has been missing. Our Maple Bacon Brussel Sprouts are TO DIE FOR! With only five ingredients, your family will not only eat brussel sprouts, they will be requesting them! The sweet from the maple syrup mixed with the heat from the Sriracha all combines with the bacon to make these brussel sprouts a home run!

How do you clean and trim brussel sprouts?

Its really quite easy! First, we cut off the stem end. If the sprouts are small, leave them whole before cooking. If they seem to be rather large or have a thick core, halve or quarter them into uniform pieces. Some leaves will fall off in this process and thats ok. We just throw those into the skillet as well.

What does Sriracha taste like?

The taste varies by brand, but usually it’s tangy-sweet with a kick of garlic. However, it’s spicy! In Thailand, sriracha is commonly used in seafood dishes, in omelets, and it’s added to sauces for Pad Thai dishes. This one here is our favorite! It brags that it is a great combination of sweet and heat, so that’s probably why we love it so much. We use it on zoodles, chicken bowls, steak tacos – just about everything!

  • 2 lbs brussel sprouts, ends trimmed
  • 4 cloves, garlic minced
  • 6 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 3 TBSP maple syrup
  • 1 TBSP Sriracha

How to make our Maple Bacon Brussel Sprouts:

Wash the brussel sprouts. Cut off the ends and slice length-wise. Set aside.

Heat cast iron skillet on medium heat. Add ½ package of bacon (about 6 slices) once the skillet is warm. Cook until slightly crunchy.

Once bacon is done cooking, remove from skillet onto a plate with paper towels for it to cool and drain of grease.

All bacon is different… so if you have a ton of grease, drain until there is about ¼ Cup remaining in the skillet. If you do not have ¼ cup left, add a few tablespoons of butter and allow to melt.

Once the bacon is done, the brussel sprouts to the still-hot skillet and sauté for 12 minutes, stirring every 2-3 minutes. While brussel sprouts are being sautéed, dice cooked bacon and set aside.

Once brussel sprouts are done, turn heat off. Add your maple syrup, sriracha and gently toss.

Last, add diced bacon, give a good stir, and then serve! Enjoy!

Adding sriracha to Maple Bacon Brussel Sprouts

Brussel Sprouts used to be a dreaded vegetable on our home. The mere mention of them was enough to elicit gags and sour-looking faces from my husband and kids. Now, they are met with enthusiasm and regarded in an entire new light. This dish is delicious, sweet, and just enough heat to allow for maximum consumption. This year, it’ll be sitting right next to the turkey on Thanksgiving day. We are saying hello to a whole new side dish for our traditional holiday meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs brussel sprouts, ends trimmed
  • 4 cloves, garlic minced
  • 4 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 3 TBSP maple syrup
  • 1 TBSP Sriracha

Instructions

    1. Cook bacon in skillet until fully cooked. Place bacon on separate plate.
    2. Leave grease. (Only need 1/4 Cup)
    3. Pour in diced brussel sprouts.
    4. Cook for 12 minutes, stirring occasionally.
    5. While brussel sprouts are cookings, dice bacon.
    6. Turn off heat.
    7. Add Sriracha, maple syrup, garlic, and diced bacon to the skillet.
    8. Mix thoroughly.
    9. Serve!
