Layered Chili Dip

Warm, cheesy, and deliciously creamy over all! Rich flavors of chili and the light texture of cream cheese are all rolled into one. This Layered Chili Dip is simple to make and sure to be a crowd pleaser. The best part, aside from how amazing it tastes, is that it’s easy to throw together and made with only 6 ingredients that most of us already have on hand!

What do I eat with chili dip?

Buttery snack crackers or saltines can be served on the side or even crumbled on top. Tortilla chips are our go-to because of how they act as mini-spoons to scoop out all the goodness. Corn bread has a nice texture, and its slightly sweet flavor accentuates chili spices so that it is always an option. Toasted garlic bread and crusty French or Italian breads are great for dipping as well.

What cheese goes with chili?

The most popular cheese to serve with chili is cheddar cheese, however your own personal preference would dictate whether it be mild, medium or sharp cheddar. Monterey and Pepper Jack cheese would be other good choices! We choose cheddar because it seems to compliment the chili the best and it something we always have on hand.

Ingredients for Layered Chili Dip:

  • Cream Cheese
  • Sour Cream
  • Chili Seasoning
  • Shredded Cheese
  • Diced Onions
  • Homemade Chili (You can also try this canned one!)

How to make our Layered Chili Dip:

Preheat the oven to 350 F.

Place the sour cream, cream cheese, and chili seasoning in a mixing bowl. Whisk or blend until fully combined. You can soften the cream cheese before hand if you are taking it straight from the refrigerator. If you don’t, it will take a little more elbow grease to get the cream cheese smooth.

Once the first three ingredients are mixed together, set aside. Dice your green onions and white onions and set aside. You can use shallots or a red onion if that is your preference. The onions are more of a garnish so changing the variety won’t throw off the overall taste of the dip 😉

Next, you will need a shallow dish for your dip to be made in. Make sure it is oven-safe as you will heat it at the end to get the cheese all nice and melted. Once you select your baking ware, pour all of the cream cheese mixture into the dish and spread an even layer along the bottom.

Next, top the cream cheese mixture with the 1 cup of chili. Spread evenly. Next, spread the cheddar cheese over the chili.

Sprinkle the green and white onions on top.

Pop into a preheated oven for 10 minutes. Ovens can vary so just look for the cheese to be melted and the chili to be slightly bubbly. Once you see that (approximately 10 minutes), pull out of the oven.

Serve!

I love making this for a yummy snack on a Friday afternoon or when we are going to a neighborhood potluck. The days we make our Southern Homemade Chili, I always take out 1 cup, put it in an airtight container and throw it in the freezer. Then I have it on hand to throw this together. A great go-to canned version is this one if you’re in a pinch. Regardless, this Layered Chili Dip is incredible, simple, and oh so tasty!
