A few years ago I was diagnosed with a milk allergy. For an ice cream lover like myself, this was terrible news! I didn’t think I would ever enjoy sweet, creamy REAL ice cream ever again! Some of the dairy free brands have perfected their recipe, but making ice cream in the backyard during a cookout has always been one of my favorite ways to enjoy this frozen treat! I came up with this recipe and have never looked back! My whole family eats it and friends and family all admit that they had no idea it was made without using dairy!

Is dairy free the same as lactose free?

Dairy Free means that the ingredients include nothing with real dairy products. These milk products are made from plants, which include grains and nuts. These products are naturally lactose free. Lactose comes from real dairy, so if you have a dairy allergy, you want to make sure it says dairy free and not just lactose free.

Does this ice cream freeze well?

Yes! This freezes very well! I can’t say that this recipe lasts very long in my house to actually make it to the freezer, but when it does, the texture stays nice and creamy and not icy! We love to use these containers to store our homemade ice cream.

Do I have to use an ice cream machine?

While you do not have to use an ice cream machine, we sure do think it is a fun way to make it! If you would prefer, you can mix the 3 ingredients well and prepare it the same way we make our Coffee Creamer Ice Cream.
