I used to make this recipe on my busiest nights…but….since being busy isn’t really a “thing” right now for some of us, this is a great meal to throw together when you find empty shelves at the store but still want a meal your family will love!
Do I have to use canned chicken?
Definitely not! Personally, it took me some time to come around to the idea of canned chicken! I do love how easy it is and you can have it waiting in the pantry anytime. We always have these ingredients at home so it is a perfect dinner in a pinch. I will also use rotisserie or shredded chicken if I have it ready in the fridge. Whatever is easiest! Use about a cup of shredded chicken if you choose to go that route!
Are chili beans the same as Ranch Beans?
Chili beans and Ranch Style Beans are not the same. They are both made with pinto beans, but they have different flavors. Ranch Beans have a flavorful, southwestern taste. If you find yourself in a pinch, you can substitute chili beans, but I highly recommend using Ranch Beans for this recipe.

- Chicken and Rice Soup
- Cream of Chicken Soup
- Ranch Style Beans
- Sour Cream
- Canned chicken
How to make our Creamy Tortilla Soup
Drain chicken and with a fork, break up into smaller pieces. Pour into large pot. Add remaining ingredients.
Stir over medium high heat until warm. Serve and enjoy.
This soup is as delicious as it is easy to make! The kids have nicknamed it “yellow soup” and BEG for it weekly! My 12 year old feels so grown up when I ask her to cook dinner… this is definitely her “signature” dish! Served with a nice salad, quesadilla, or on its own, this soup makes even the busiest nights easy to get dinner on the table!
