Delicious, filling, fortifying, and protein-packed: the adjectives to describe this incredible casserole dish! My BBQ Chicken Casserole with Pasta combines the sweet heat of barbecue sauce with zesty ranch seasoning, crunchy bacon, and creamy sour cream to make a delicious and simple weeknight meal! This is a dish I can guarantee your husbands will request again!
My disclaimer here is this: I am a mayonnaise snob. I am all about Duke’s Mayo, all the time. Why am I telling you this? Because I was walking the aisle in my local grocery store when I spied a bottle of barbecue sauce made by Duke’s! I knew I had to to try it but wasn’t sure what to use it on. It was then that I started thinking of amazing flavors that could be combined to make a tasty and filling meal! I love the addition of pasta because it gives the dish a surprising element that most don’t use with BBQ but absolutely should! Try it and you’ll understand why.
What is the best way to cook bacon?
Over the years, I have experimented with how to cook bacon often. We eat it almost weekly π I have found the best way is as follows: Grease a baking sheet that has sides and place each piece of bacon side by side. They can be touching, but not overlapping. Place in a COLD oven. Next, preheat the oven to 375 F and cook for 20-25 minutes, depending on how crispy you like the bacon. This is such an easy method and the mess is so minimal! It’s that simple!
Can this be made ahead of time?
Absolutely! You can make this dish up to 48 hours before you need to cook. Simply follow the instructions in the recipe card up until the baking part. Place an air-tight lid over top and store in the refrigerator up to 2 days before cooking. It’s great for a busy day when you know cooking would be tough. None of the textures or flavors will be affected! Bake as instructed when you are ready to eat!
Ingredients for our BBQ Chicken Casserole with Pasta:
- Shredded Chicken
- BBQ Sauce
- Shredded Cheese
- Bacon
- Sour Cream
- Diced Tomatoes (Del Monte)
- Pasta
- Ranch Seasoning
How to make our BBQ Chicken Casserole with Pasta:
First, preheat the oven to 375 F.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the barbecue sauce, sour cream, and the dry ranch seasoning. Mix until the ingredients are completely combined.
Once mixed, in the same bowl, add the shredded chicken, diced bacon, 1/2 the cheese (reserve the rest for the topping), sour cream, and the can of diced tomatoes. Be sure to drain the tomatoes before adding them to the mixture.
Stir to fully combine.
In a greased 9 x 13 casserole dish, spread the chicken mixture evenly all over. Top with the remaining cheese. You can always add more cheese here if that suits you and your family! Drizzle with bout 1/4th cup of BBQ sauce.
- One of the reasons I love this BBQ sauce is because it comes in the squeeze bottle, so the drizzle part of above is super easy. If you don’t have a squeeze bottle, simply pour into a measuring cup and pour over the casserole as evenly as you can.
Bake for 25 minutes, uncovered. The cheese will be nice and bubbly. Remove from oven and serve!
One of my husband’s most favorite flavors is barbecue. I don’t usually love it so that naturally translates into me not using it as a common ingredient. (Sorry babe.) I’m so glad I switched it up! This casserole is so good and combines MY favorite flavor – bacon – with a lot of other great tastes and textures. The pasta adds a great component that rounds out the dish to make it filling and comforting. Hope you enjoy!
