The Baked Chicken Parmesan Casserole baked and on a table.

In a perfect world, I try to always have fresh ingredients on hand when I cook. But, alas, the world is not perfect… at least not tonight in our house! Ha! Forethought on the chicken would’ve been nice, but I didn’t have it today. That’s where a bag of frozen, shredded chicken comes in nicely. I am able to pop that baby on the counter to defrost – it’s pretty fast – and throw this casserole together in no time at all. I feel the marinara sauce chosen also contributes big time to have good this tastes. Bertoli Olive Oil and Garlic has never let me down so it is my go-to. The flavors are light and perfect for the this simple chicken parmesan!

Is there a difference between chicken parmesan and chicken parmigiana?

There is no difference between chicken parmesan and chicken parmigiana. The difference comes in based on what region a person is from. In the US, we call in chicken parmesan or chicken parm. In other parts of the world, the dish is referred to as chicken parmi or chicken parma. The term itself refers to the region of Parma, Italy, where the dish is said to have originated.

What can I serve with chicken parmesan?

The ingredients for the Baked Chicken Parmesan Casserole.

Ingredients for our Baked Chicken Parmesan Casserole:

  • Shredded Chicken
  • Mozzarella Cheese
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • Marinara Sauce
  • Butter
  • Stove Top Chicken Stuffing

How to make our Baked Chicken Parmesan Casserole:

Preheat the oven to 350 F. While the oven is heating, grease a 9 x 13 casserole dish. Place 4 cups of cooked, shredded chicken evenly in the base of the dish.

A glass baking dish with a layer of cooked chicken in the bottom.

Next, evenly pour marinara sauce over the chicken. You can add more that the recipe calls for, however it may make the dish a little too juicy.

A glass baking dish with chicken and then marinara poured over top.

Next, sprinkle both the parmesan and mozzarella cheese over top the marinara sauce. If you don’t have both cheese, just add more of what you do have on hand. There is not such thing as ‘too much cheese’ in my book! 🙂

A glass baking dish with a layer of chicken, marinara, and now a layer of parmesan and mozzarella cheese over top.

Last, melt two tablespoons of butter in a bowl and add the stuffing mix to it. Stir until all of the stuffing is coated. Layer evenly over top of the cheese. Bake for 20-25 minutes and enjoy! The marinara and cheese should be bubbly when removed from the oven.

The final Baked Chicken Parmesan Casserole on a red placemat ready to be served.

There is nothing better than a great recipe that everyone enjoys and has minimal prep work and clean up. I try to always have the Tyson Grilled and Ready Shredded Chicken Breast on hand in times when I need to ‘throw and go’. It really is hard to beat something that takes 5 minutes to throw together AND tastes as good as this one. Added plus is that if there are leftovers, they reheat amazingly the next day!
