Fresh Simple Malibu Paradise in a pitcher and a glass.

We have a great restaurant here in Destin that we go to often. The atmosphere is light and fun and perfect for a date night or to bring the family along. One night a few years back, I tried this tropical fruity down-right amazing drink that knocked my socks off. I decided I had to recreate it so I could make it whenever I wanted. This is how I came up with this awesome cocktail. I’m sure its not exactly how that restaurant makes it, but it is darn close and maybe even a little better! Love when inspiration turns into something this yummy!

Is Malibu made with real coconut?

Per their website, Malibu Coconut Rum is distilled from fermented molasses and blended with coconut and sugar. The brand is owned by one of the world’s largest spirits producers, Pernod Ricard. Currently produced in Canada, Malibu Coconut rum was originally made in Curaçao from fruit spirits flavored with coconut and rum.

Will Malibu rum freeze?

If it’s your average home freezer, probably it won’t freeze.
It will get very cold, and, depending on the quality of the rum it may also become a kind of “rum syrup” (It also happens to some whiskeys, something I love, btw). … A beer will freeze because, most of it is water. But not rum.

What is the shelf life of this product?

Direct from their website they said that “the shelf life of Malibu Rum is one year after opening. The shelf life is for best delivery of taste. After exceeding the time the flavor impact will begin to become noticeably less and would not represent the normal excellent quality expected.”

Cocktail in a glass with lime garnish

As tasty as it is beautiful, i’m such a sucker for something that can come together so quickly and with such few ingredients. This is a win for so many reasons. A good side note: put all the non-alcoholic ingredients in a pitcher, add two cups of ginger-ale, and you have a great kid version! My kids go nuts over it just as much as we do the adult version. Total win for everyone! We love to pair this with our Sam’s Club Chicken Salad for boat days too!
